Depending on who you ask, this could’ve been the greatest decision the Hot Spitta ever made (especially considering the current state of YMCMB outside of Drake and Nicki) or the most detrimental because it, in part, perpetuated Curren$y’s image as an independent mixtape rapper. They’d had their run and Curren$y knew it was time to strike out on his own.

Rumors popped up all over Hip-Hop blogs to try to explain the random split but the truth was there was really no explanation to be found. His collaborative single with Lil Wayne “Where the Cash At” graced all our Myspace pages at one point or another and it seemed he was poised to be the second half a of an industry leading one two punch with Weezy. What now seems to be ages ago, Curren$y was an integral part of the foundation of the then growing Cash Money empire. And yet, despite it all, it seems like Curren$y has never really gotten his due. Included on that list is a project from Curren$y with melodic production, slick weed metaphors, old school muscle car references, and a dope album cover to top it off. There’s few things in Hip-Hop you can count on year in and year out: a Kanye rant, a French Montana release date getting pushed back at LEAST two months, an equally timely and random game changing verse from Andre 3K. Let me start off by saying very few rappers in the game have been as consistent as Spitta dating back to his days as Lil Wayne’s right hand man.

Last week was a great one if you’re a fan of free music between Schoolboy Q and Rick Ross’ long anticipated album leaks, and the latest Migos release that’s been officially dubbed, “the Trap Illmatic” (post coming soon.) In the midst of it all I’ve still been working my way through the latest addition to Curren$y’s catalog “Drive-In Theater.”
